Israel’s official languages are Hebrew and Arabic, with Hebrew being the primary language used in government and used amongst the majority population. Many Israeli people are also fluent in English, but it’s always a good idea to learn as much of the local language as possible to get the best experiences.

Israel’s industry focuses on innovation and technology. Known as the ‘Start-Up Nation’ due to its incredible economic growth, the country is a technology hub which focuses on the highly skilled cybersecurity, fintech, and artificial intelligence sectors. The biggest technology companies in the world have research and development centres in the country. Israel’s defence industry is also one of the largest in the world, along with being one of the most advanced, and is a major exporter of military technology. Due to its rich culture, the tourism industry also thrives, with people from all over the world going to visit its historical and religious sites. It is also a leader in Medical Technology, with particular focus in medical devices and digital health.

Buses are the most commonly used transportation in Israel, with the network covering most of the country. even though Israel does have a rail system, this is relatively new and still being developed, with trains only connecting the major cities, l so not ideal for inner-city travel, or to smaller destinations. Car rental is a very popular option with people who wish to explore all that the country has to offer at their own pace. Much like in other major cities, Israel also boasts a bike-sharing system, where you can rent a bike at a dock and return it when you are finished with it.

With something to offer everybody, Israel has places to live to suit every need. Tel Aviv is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, with a rich arts and culture scene, stunning beaches, and thriving nightlife. It goes without saying then, that it is a popular destination for young professionals and entrepreneurs. Israel was named the 3rd best place to raise children in 2017, with Jerusalem being a highlight in the country as 80% of parents being satisfied with education options. Haifa is a magnet for the slower pace of life, with its beautiful port, beaches, and gardens.

Education is compulsory from the age of three until eighteen, with classes being delivered in both Hebrew and Arabic. Typically, they will attend preschool, primary, secondary, and then higher education. There are four international schools in the country, these being the Anglican International School Jerusalem, Treehouse International, Walworth Barbour American, and Jerusalem American International.

Israel is teaming with things to do and see, so it’s best to get out and experience as much as possible. From exploring the Old City of Jerusalem (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to the ancient fortress of Masada which overlooks the Dead Sea, to its amazing beaches and beyond, you will find it difficult to run out of things to do.
