Shipping abroad can be complex with each country’s customs requirements and local regulations being different. The precise cost for shipping or air freight will depend on the exact size (and sometimes the weight) of your consignment.
We recommend air freight if you require your effects promptly. If you wish to ship most or all of your household effects we recommend the use of a dedicated container.
For smaller shipments, we recommend our part load (groupage) service as the most practical and cost effective option. The exact price will depend on the cubic capacity, container size, and service required. Part loads will be returned to our warehouse for consolidation and loading. Full load containers can be loaded directly at your home if the access allows.
Our export packing service provides a detailed inventory for customs and is suitable for use with ‘all risk’ marine insurance cover.

The US is one of the most popular expat destinations in the world. It is, after all, a country built by immigrants.
Moving to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a decision made by thousands of expats every year. In fact, around 88% of the people in the UAE are expats with native Emiratis making up just 12% of the entire population. There are various reasons why so many people – including many Brits – are attracted to a new life in the UAE. The luxurious lifestyle, job opportunities and tax benefits are just some of the incentives for choosing to start a new life in this thriving federation.
The UAE is made up of seven emirates – Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, Umm al-Quwain, Dubai and the capital emirate of Abu Dhabi. Each emirate has its own distinct character, laws and ruler. Whilst Dubai and Abu Dhabi are far and away the two most popular emirates it’s important to research the different opportunities offered by each of them. What unites all emirates however, is the absence of any taxes. This means that you will not have to pay tax on any salary you earn or on anything you buy whilst living in the UAE including food, imports and any other goods. Without paying tax, you can quickly build up savings or afford luxuries you wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford in the UK.
The landscape of the UAE consists of approximately 90% desert and mountainous terrain. All of that sand is great for sand surfing and desert safaris but there are plenty of green spaces to be found in the cities. However, the UAE is infamous for its sweltering heat during the summer months. Temperatures can often near 50 degrees Celsius, which makes it difficult to even step outside. Luckily, nearly all
buildings (and even bus stops) benefit from air conditioning, especially in the modern apartments that make up the majority of accommodation in the UAE.
Whilst Arabic is the official language of the UAE, English is still widely spoken. Most expats living in the UAE get by with English alone but it’s always worth picking up some Arabic phrases, if nothing else than to endear yourself to the locals. As a UK citizen you are eligible for a visitor’s visa upon arrival in the UAE, which allows you to remain for up to 30 days. If you intend to stay for longer and work in the UAE you will need to get a probationary work permit which is valid for up to 3 months from the Ministry of Labour. For more information regarding visas or staying in the UAE for longer than 60 days, please visit the UAE Consulate in London or the UAE Federal E-Governmental Portal.
Whether you’re shipping your summer wardrobe, your beloved family heirloom — or even the kitchen sink! — our customer team will be happy to help.
